Dakota Day 2015

Dakhóta People's Day FlyerOn Saturday, July 25th 2015 the Pond Dakota Mission of Bloomington hosted the Dakota People’s Day event.  Dakhóta Iápi Okhódakičhiye (Dakota Language Society) participated in the event by offering thabkápsičapi (lacrosse) demonstrations and through interactive Dakota language lessons.  We set our event booth with information about the current state of the Dakota language, upcoming language events and had our Level 1 Dakota language materials available for sale.

The event was featured in the local Sun Current Newspaper, and we are looking forward to the post event article soon!

Join us Saturday, August 1, at Father Hennepin Bluffs Park from 4pm till 8pm

This one-day event celebrates indigenous Minnesota culture with contemporary and traditional music, art, food, lacrosse demonstrations, Dakota language and much more.

Owamni will celebrate indigenous voices, connecting both locally and nationally through music featuring Scatter Their Own, Bluedog, and Wade Fernandez

An arts fair area will showcase the talents of Anishinaabe, Hochunk, and Dakota visual artists.

The Sioux Chef , Sean Sherman and Tatanka Food Truck will be selling local, organic, traditional game with a modern twist.

4pm: Scatter Their Own – Alternative Rock

Scatter Their Own is an alternative rock duo of Oglala Lakota ancestry from the Pine Ridge Reservation of South Dakota. Nominated for this years best rock cd.

5:30pm: Bluedog – Blues/Rock
Bluedog is an award winning band from Minneapolis and was the Native American Music Award Winner for Group of the Year (2010).

7pm: Wade Fernandez – Blues/Rock
Wade Fernandez is from the Menominee nation of Wisconsin and award-winning for his vocals, guitar, songwriting, native flute & drumming.
